Keeping busy at home with Allworths

As lockdown stretches on our team have come together to share some of our favourite ways to stay happy, healthy and occupied during this time.

We’ve uncovered some impressive cooking skills among us, and it’s great to see how many of us are staying strong with exercise.

If you’re struggling to find a new hobby to take up right now, take a look to see if any of our recommendations appeal to you…

Cynthia: I have become a big fan of Uber Eats and Menulog since lockdown began. I am always tempted to order takeaway on Friday evenings to try something different. It’s my way to end the work week on a high note.

Theresa: It can be frustrating to look at your new coworker at home every day, so my tip is to take up new things together you’ve never tried before, such as yoga or gardening. During this lockdown, I’ve also gotten acquainted with my neighbours, Dan and Murphy. We’re now best friends.

David Costigan: I am not a great fan of working from home, however those who know me would be aware that I like to keep fit. However, the lockdown and resultant extra time available has enabled me to further improve my fitness levels to the extent that my joggers now cover more kms in a week than the car, which is not likely to need fueling up for another 10 months or so with its current level of usage.

We’re getting to know the neighborhood very well, and on our regular outings we often walk by a local park where the restrictions don’t seem to be taken all that seriously by quite a number of pet owners. However, we do gain amusement from the scraps between the prized pooches and the resulting arguments that ensue between owners.

We have a great spot to view the sunset down behind our place, which we often get out to enjoy with an end of day refreshment, so all in all it’s not that bad really.

Marc: One thing I’ve been doing more often to pass the time during lockdown is to bake. I’ve been baking one thing every weekend and have been challenging myself by trying different kinds of pastries. The most difficult thing about baking right now is getting the ingredients because we order groceries online every week and if I miss one ingredient I will have to wait for next week or just make do with what I have.

Here are some pictures below of some things I made during the lockdown (profiteroles, cinnamon rolls, chocolate jaffa cake and french macarons). I enjoy the process of making them but not as much as eating them!

Joshua: Personally I’ve found getting into sport has been great. Both playing and watching. Going down to the cricket nets at the local park with some mates that live close by or kicking the football around has allowed us to somewhat socialise (even though I can only see one of them at a time) while also keeping the legs moving.

If I’m stuck indoors due to weather I’ve either been binge watching some shows or trying to take advantage of my Kayo subscription and watching as much sport as I can seeing as I can’t go out on the weekends.

David Downie: The kids did some custom donut making last week which kept everyone entertained for a while – here’s a photo of Danny with his donut:

Aside from that I have started a calisthenics exercise program on the ‘Caliverse’ app which I do with the kids in the morning. My goal is to progress to be able to do the ‘human flag’. Like this guy but without the tats:

Louise: During my lockdown walks, I discovered a little ringtail possum in our garden. She waits every night, and loves the apple I treat her with. She has a bub in her pouch so I can’t wait to see her new addition.

Secondly, Wayne thought a selection of cakes for my ‘working at home’ morning teas would brighten my days! It worked! However, when I return to the office, some may not recognise me (no explanation required) 😊

Grace: During lockdown I got to spend more time with my little ones, doing ‘show and tell’ and art works. My toddler was very excited to come up in front of the whole family and be a teacher and share her version of a story book.

She eagerly went through the pages and described each letter and the image that went along with it. I also enjoyed being a student again, sitting in ‘class’, listening to the teacher and taking notes.

We also spend a lot of time together to improve and refine our creative and motor skills. I attached a piece of art, created by Miss A after she watched Baa Baa Black Sheep and said ‘the sheep should be white mum’.

Hopefully, some of these activities have resonated with you and may resemble what you’ve been doing in lockdown yourself. There are some great food and craft ideas for your kids to do, and some new hobby suggestions of gardening, exercising, and enjoying some well-deserved refreshment after a long day!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can assist you with anything in lockdown.
