Founding details: Deputy was founded by Australian entrepreneur Steve Shelly in 1992. It has since evolved with advancements in technology to become a cloud-based software solution that services hundreds of thousands of people and businesses in over 70 countries.
Scenario:
You’re running a people intensive business with numerous shift workers, casuals or contractors. It’s becoming difficult to manage their rosters and budget properly as different staff members are on different Awards. You’ve got plenty of other operations to manage and find yourself becoming time poor, so you’re looking for a solution that will greatly simplify and streamline your workforce management duties.

Deputy intends to be the trusty second-in-charge ‘team member’ to business owners, as the software better enables them to manage employees and perform workforce management-related tasks.
Deputy’s staff management software allows managers to schedule staff based on demand, availability and budget, and notify employees of roster changes instantly via the web or their mobile app. The software also tracks real-time attendance, so you know exactly who is in at all times and can easily approve accurate timesheets for payroll purposes.
Additional functionality includes the ability to share important information on the company ‘News Feed’ and receive notifications when employees have read your messages (so there’s no more “I didn’t know about that” as an excuse). Employees can easily swap shifts with each other and manage their leave through the software, while managers can approve all this with ease from anywhere.
Integration with Xero:
Deputy features full Award interpretation, with over 30 of the most common Fair Work Awards available; it can be integrated with Xero to calculate overtime, penalty rates, leave loading and salary costing, and contractor invoicing, which are adjusted with every shift. Additionally, leave requests and daily leave will sync with Xero payroll. Overall, the integration saves hours in payroll processing time.
